Artcane – Odyssee (1977)

French prog from the late seventies, with a few nice surprises here and there. Although they made only one record, it’s was not in vein. The music is quirky, dynamic, with a sharp guitar sound and strong drum channel.

At least one of the tracks (“25e anniversaire”) bears a very close resemblence to the famous “Larks Tounges in Aspic II” piece by King Crimson, which is excusable enough. The synth work is not something the experienced progger has never heard before, but it’s still inspiring at times.

All in all – “Odyssee” is a mini-odyssey for your proggy ears. Not an essential release, but a valuable one at any rate.
